REVIEW: Elf Lip Exfoliator

I started randomly getting emails from Hermes, telling me that I could start to track my package. Normally I would be very excited, but for this one, I was so confused. I knew I hadn’t ordered anything recently, and had ZERO idea what it would be. I also did think that maybe I had ordered it whilst I was on my strong pain killers (Two christmas’ ago I order near 15 Yankee Candles from different places because I kept forgetting I brought them…)

It turns out that I had won this in a competition that again, didn’t realised I had entered!

E.L.F states:

‘Gently exfoliate lips to remove dry, chapped skin with our Lip Exfoliator! A sweet sugar and smoothing sensation, infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oils to nourish and protect. This Lip Exfoliator treats and smoothes lips for a conditioned and revitalized feel.’

Ingredients

Sucrose, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Ozokerite, Fragrance (Parfum), Synthetic Candelilla Wax, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Ve)

Packaging

The E.L.F lip exfoliator is packaged in a standard square lipstick tube, with the product inside looking like a regular lipstick.

First Thoughts

When I first opened this up, I was slightly confused due to how smooth looking the exfoliator was… I didn’t have much faith in this product as of yet.

My exfoliator was in the flavour ‘Sweet Cherry’, which retails at £4.50. There is obviously a cherry scent to this, but does smell quite artificial.IMG_5633.JPG

Application

I then applied this to my lips, and instantly felt the grittiness of it. It was nothing harsh that made me think I was destroying my lips, but harsh enough to make me believe that it would actually work.

You can taste the cherry whilst it’s on, but again, it does taste rather artificial (please don’t have a nibble on the product to taste test it).

After Application

You can still feel the grittiness of the product (Not entirely sure what ingredient is in this to give it the exfoliating properties) when you have had the product on for around 5 minutes which I did like. I kept rubbing my lips together with this on, just to give it a little bit more help.

My main concern with this was that I wouldn’t be able to wear this out and about, since it would look like I’ve eaten something and haven’t quite gotten around to wiping my mouth yet. Don’t get me wrong, it still does look like you’ve eaten a sugared doughnut without licking off the sugar for a while, but this does dissolve quickly.

Conclusion

Despite how negative my review actually sounds, I am a big fan of this. My lips do feel super, super soft afterwards, and would definitely recommend putting this on before any other lip product.

I get really dry, cracked, and peeling lips, and I found this banishes any of that!

I did recently place an order with E.L.F, and actually ordered one of these in the same flavour, so will be adding this into my next giveaway!

  1. That’s an interesting format to have an exfoliator in! I’ve only used one out of jars, this looks so convenient! I could totally see myself forgetting its not a lipstick and try to wear it though x
