This isn’t going to be one of my usual posts, but its going to definitely be an important one.
One of my best friends, Natalie, gave birth on 7th December 2016 to the most wonderful human being ever, who’s named Alex.
What Does Tommy’s Do?
Tommy’s fund research into pregnancy problems and provide pregnancy health information to parents.
Why Does Tommy’s Exist?
Tommy’s exists to save babies’ lives. They fund research into the causes and prevention of pregnancy complications that lead to miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. They also provide pregnancy health information for parents-to-be.
We believe it is unacceptable that one in four women lose a baby during pregnancy and birth.
Tommy’s wants to give every baby the best chance of being born healthy. Right now, in the UK, one in four women loses a baby during pregnancy or birth.
We fund medical research into the causes of premature births, stillbirths and miscarriages. We have set up three research centres in the UK, in St Thomas Hospital in London, St Marys in Manchester and the recently established centre in the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. Each centre focused its research efforts on different issues relating to pregnancy.
We also provide research-based information about pregnancy health issues for medical professionals and parents-to-be.
This includes a dedicated telephone midwife service, a comprehensive website and free books and leaflets dedicated to promoting health in pregnancy and pre-pregnancy.
We are supported by people who want to do something about the lack of research and information around pregnancy issues like miscarriage, stillbirths and premature births.
By 2030 we want to halve the number of babies who die during pregnancy or birth.
How You Can Help!
The main way that you can help is to donate money, and sponsor Alex for his swim. I know I keep repeating this, but the fact that 1 in 4 women lose a baby during pregnancy and birth is horrifying, and they need all the help that they can get to change them figures for the better.
Every single penny counts. It doesn’t matter if its £1 or £100. We NEED to help in every way possible. You never know who might have to ask Tommy’s for help. It could be you, your partner, your mother, your sister, your friend. Anyone, could be a victim.
