REVIEW: LaRoc 120 Eyeshadow Palette

If you didn’t know already, I wrote a eyeshadow palette collection post a few months ago, and I woke up today with a comment from the lovely Lexi from Vital For Style, asking for swatches of the 120 LaRoc palette, and I thought I may as well do a review too!

Price

I purchased mine from eBay this year sometime, so unfortunately I don’t have the link of the exact one available, but I believe I paid £12 for this palette. BARGIN.

I did find the exact same palette over on Amazon, but the price is slightly different. It’s £2 cheaper?! 120 shades for £9.99 is incredible.

Packaging

The eyeshadows are packaged in a sleek black palette with the logo printed in white on the front. Inside of the palette are two layers, each with 70 eyeshadows on (19mm in diameter) , and can easily be removed and swapped around.

Product

‘A variation of 120 colours including neutral, vibrant, shimmer and speckled arranged in a palette formation so it is easy to view. The palette is in a sleek and stylish black case so you can take your eyeshadow almost anywhere! Whether you are going for a darker and more mysterious look or bright and bold, this range of eyeshadow is certain to catch the right attention! Our eyeshadow is designed to be kind to skin and is suitable for ages 12 and above. It is water-resistant and keeps on lasting way after the day (or night) is done.’

Since this palette is such a low price, I wasn’t expecting much of a wow factor from this…

I have and most likely will be always more interested in neutral matte shades since these are the colours I tend to stick with. This is what let me down the most. The pigment in some of the shades are horrendous and I had to swivel my finger around the pan a good 10 times to get a decent colour pay off. I haven’t tried these with a wet brush before, but reading from reviews, using these with a damped brush is the way to go.

However, there are some shades in here which BLEW me away. I cannot get over the pigment on some of these shades! Compared to the mattes, the shimmer shades were incredible! If they had the same pigment as the mattes did, I honestly think I’d end up throwing this in the bin, but obviously I’m over the moon that they’re good quality!

I did notice that there was a lot of fall out when I did the swatches and the palette did end up quite messy looking, but nothing a wet wipe can’t fix. Weirdly enough, I don’t actually get too bothered about fall out? Obviously I would prefer it if there wasn’t any, but it wouldn’t stop me from buying a product if there was.

Another thing worth noting is that this palette has NOT been tested on animals.

Overall

With 1,047 reviews on Amazon, 893 of them have been 4 stars or above, meaning that this palette has the overall rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Despite how shoddy some of the shades were, I cannot fault the more shimmery shades. The pigment on some of them are incredible, and since I paid 12p each, I’m not complaining.

I’m really happy to have welcomed this palette into my collection, and definitely will need to start using it a bit more!

Would I Repurchase?

I don’t think I would need to since there are so many different colours, but if I used up a certain shade I would definitely repurchase this again. Also, since there are more than 10 shades that I would use up time and time again, I wouldn’t feel as if I was wasting a lot of money if I were to repurchase this and only to use 10 shades out of the 120.

Product Best Suited For?

Beginners. In the reviews, there have been a lot of makeup artists saying how much they love this palette and all the shades, but I’m not too convinced if I’m honest.

Tips:

  • Wet your brush before using some of the more matte shades.
  • I’m still undecided if I do this yet, but if you find that there is only a few shades you get along with, I would definitely consider depotting these and putting them into a smaller palette or a z-palette.
