I recently got sent this facial scrub from Dr. Botanicals, and it couldn’t have arrived at a better time.
After using Dead Sea Spa Magiks facial scrub for months and months, I finally decided that it was time to branch out of my comfort zone, and try this out instead.
‘1) Coffee Oil is concentrated from the green coffee bean plant and it is high in antioxidants and fatty acids that nourish and work to protect the skin’s complexion.
2) Walnut Shell Powder is a natural exfoliant, it gently removes dull and dry skin cells to reveal soft and smooth skin.’
‘Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Shell Powder, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Coffea Arabica (Coffee) Seed Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Acacia Decurrens/Jojoba/Sunflower Seed Wax/Polyglyceryl-3 Esters, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil, Sodium Levulinate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Sodium Anisate, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Phytic Acid, Levulinic Acid, Cellulose Gum, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Ceratonia Siliqua Gum, Sucrose, Citric Acid.’
The Dr. Botanicals coffee exfoliator will cost you £17. Whilst it is a little bit more expensive than what I’d usually pay, I wouldn’t mind paying the price tag if the results were good.
The coffee scrub is packaged in a dark brown glass tub, with a black plastic lid and a sticker wrapped around the jar.
This is a bit hit for me. One of my beauty pet hates is when a product is a little on the pricey side, yet they still use the cheapest packaging they can. Thumbs up for Dr. Botanicals!
I realise how stupid this is going to sound, but hear me out.
I know this is a coffee scrub, and it definitely does smell like coffee, but not fresh coffee? It smells as if you’ve made a cup of coffee, didn’t drink it so popped it by the sink, gone to bed and then you’ve come down in the morning. Kind of cold and stale coffee? Do I sound like an idiot? Yes? Okay…
You’re all likely bored of hearing me say this, but every time I receive a new skin care product, I’m always quite wary to use it as I never know how well it’s going to react to my acne prone skin.
I decided to bite the bullet and use this and one other new skin care product and see how they went.
After I washed my face, I scooped out a blob of the scrub, and started to scrub my face in circular motions.
After around 30-40 seconds, I rinsed my face with warm water, and patted my face dry with a clean towel.
I instantly started inspecting my face to see what the scrub had done.
Visually, there wasn’t much to say about this apart from my face wasn’t horrendously red like some scrubs can make me, so that’s at least one bonus already.
After washing my hands, I decided it was time for the touch test (cheeky). Not only was my face not looking like a tomato, but my skin felt ridiculously smooth. All the dried flakes of skin I had before had vanishes, and some of my blackheads seemed to have been cleared out.
For some reason, something in the back of my head was telling me that this was going to break me out, and to my surprise, my skin was actually looking clearer the more I used this! Not one breakout happened in the following days, and even now when I’m half way through the jar, I’m yet to see some sort of breakout caused by this scrub!
Overall, I am really happy with the results this has given me. Brighter, smoother skin, with no payback! Even though I’m really happy with this, I don’t unfortunately think it will be a regular purchase of mine due to the price, but I’ll definitely be buying this for when I feel my skin needs it the most!
- Nice packaging
- Scrub isn’t too harsh on my skin
- Makes my skin feel ridiculously smooth
- Doesn’t break me out
- Banishes some of my pesky blackheads
- None of Dr Botanicals products are tested on animals
- Quite pricy (for me anyway)
- Not a massive fan of the smell
- Wish the pot was a little bit larger for the price!
