BLOGMAS | My 6 Favourite Christmas Films

If you’re anything like my mum, you would have started to watch Christmas films 3 months ago. As much as I bloody enjoy a Christmas film, I have to wait until at least December to watch them, and then it takes me around 2 months to finally stop watching them…

Saying that, my top 5 aren’t necessarily Christmas films, but they’re all the films I watch this time of the year.

Elf (2003)

‘After inadvertently wreaking havoc on the elf community due to his ungainly size, a man raised as an elf at the North Pole is sent to the U.S. in search of his true identity.’ – IMDb

I mean, come on. Who doesn’t like Elf?! I honestly watch this films multiple times in the run up to Christmas, and even manage to squeeze it in a few times after aswell.

The Wizard Of Oz (1939)

‘Dorothy Gale is swept away from a farm in Kansas to a magical land of Oz in a tornado and embarks on a quest with her new friends to see the Wizard who can help her return home in Kansas and help her friends as well.’ IMDb

I don’t think that this is actually a Christmas film, but since it’s on the TV every Christmas, it had to make it onto this list. How I used to dream I was Dorothy, and I still dream about them red sparkly shoes now.

Happy Feet (2006)

‘Into the world of the Emperor Penguins, who find their soul mates through song, a penguin is born who cannot sing. But he can tap dance something fierce!’ IMBd

Again, not really a Christmas film, but I can’t not watch this. I’ve only watched bits of the second film, so I think I need to make it my goal to watch 1 and 2 back to back.

The Holiday (2006)

‘Two women troubled with guy-problems swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.’ IMBd

The first time I ever watched this, I ended up having to call an ambulance half way through, and it honestly put me off watching it again for so long. But come on, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law, all in one film?! Yes please.

Home Alone (1990)

‘An eight-year-old troublemaker must protect his house from a pair of burglars when he is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation.’ IMBd

I wonder if a family has actually ever gone on holiday, and forgot their son. To be honest, it sounds like something I’d end up doing…

Love Actually (2003)

MV5BMTY4NjQ5NDc0Nl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwNjk5NDM3._V1_

‘Follows the lives of eight very different couples in dealing with their love lives in various loosely interrelated tales all set during a frantic month before Christmas in London, England.’ – IMBd

Last but by no means least, Love Actually. I’ll admit that it took me an embarrassingly long time before I sat down and watched this, but after seeing it for the first time, I soon realised why it was a favourite for so many people.

What are your favourite Christmas films to watch?

  2. I think my all time favorite Christmas film is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. It’s freakin hilarious!! I’d say Christmas Story comes in second. The Wizard of Oz would usually come on TV here in the US around Thanksgiving which was something me & my mom always watched. And Love Actually is definitely a favorite also!! ♥
