Never have I been so excited to talk about a liquid lipstick before.
After being attacked by the dreaded winter flu, you can imagine how much it cheered me up to receive a PR package from Pixi By Petra.
Each MatteLast will cost you £16.00. In comparison, a MAC Liquid Lipstick will also set you back £17.50, a Charlotte Tilbury Liquid Lipstick costs £24 each, Kat Von D Everlasting Lipstick is £17.00 each, and Anastasia Beverley Hills Liquid Lipstick is £20.00.
Obviously, £16.00 is quite a high price in comparison to some drugstore lipsticks (Kiko £7.90, E.L.F. £6.00 and MUA Luxe £3.00), but seems to be the average price for a high end brand.
Packaging & Applicator
The MatteLast’s are packaged in a rectangular, plastic tube, with their staple light green colouring on the wand and top of the tube.
Whilst the packaging is rather simple, it does feel rather weighty which is something I love in a product.
This is the first time I’ve ever used a liquid lipstick with an applicator that is so flexible and soft.
At first, it did take me some time to get used to how bendy the applicator was, but once I’d used these a few times, I got the hang of it.
The applicator makes application a dream. The product glides onto the lips, and due to the shape of the wand, it makes it easy to use without the use of a lip liner.
Shades, Swatches & Scent
All of the 5 shades are pretty similar in the way that they’re all very pink/mauve toned (hence the shade names).
I was quite taken back by the smell of these. Before taking a whiff, I had imagined that these would smell like roses, but once opened, Terry’s Chocolate Orange hit me instead. I don’t actually mind the smell of these (even though they do give me the biggest chocolate craving ever), but I can see how some people may be put off by the scent.
Matte Beige MatteLast Liquid Lipstick
Matte Beige is a deep brown shade, with pinky undertones.
Pastel Petal MatteLast Liquid Lipstick
Again, Pastel Petal is a deep shade, but has more of a mauve undertone (hard to see in the photo).
Really Rose MatteLast Liquid Lipstick
Really Rose is a really beautiful dark pink/red shade.
Evening RoseMatteLast Liquid Lipstick
Evening Rose has the most purple undertones.
Au Naturalle MatteLast Liquid Lipstick
This is the shade that’s the most different to the others due to its orange/pink undertones.
I honestly didn’t have much hope for these. When I first swatched them, I instantly felt how creamy and smooth the formula was, and in my head, that meant that the lasting power of these were going to be well, shitty.
How I was wrong.
This is one of the only liquid lipsticks that I’ve ever tried that has such a creamy formula, but the lasting power is something else.
The texture of the MatteLast reminds me a lot of the NYX Soft Matte Creams in the fact that they’re both incredible soft, almost mousse like.
I know that once I pop this on in the morning, I won’t have to worry about any touch ups throughout the day. I’ve worked 7 hour shifts, eaten, drank (without a straw!), vaped (embarrassingly) and these babies have lasted through it all.
I will say if I apply it around 12pm, I will notice a little fading in the center of my lips around 6pm, but nothing crazy noticeable.
For me personally, I do think £16 is rather pricey for a single lipstick, but having tried and fallen head over heels with these, I wouldn’t mind paying out for any other shades that Pixi may bring out.
What do you think of these liquid lipsticks from Pixi By Petra?
