And no, I’m not taking about Acid you find at a free party.
I mentioned in my Pixi Glow Tonic Review how acid used to scare me. Why the hell would I want that on my face?!
Turns out, some acids can have amazing effects on your skin. SOME being the key word here.
PLEASE always wear SPF, but especially when using acids.
GLYCOLIC ACID:
What Is It?: Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and is derived from sugarcane, although now can be made synthetically.
What’s It Do?: Glycolic acid exfoliates the skin, which dissolves dead skin, evens out your skin tone, and unblocks pores which leads to acne breakouts.
Who’s It For?: This acid is great for people with oily and/or acne prone skin, but it can be used with other skin types aswell.
Products Containing Glycolic Acid:
LACTIC ACID:
What Is It?: This acid is similar to Glycolic, but its even more gentle since it has been derived from milk.
What’s It Do?: Since it is derived from milk, it has a moisturising affect to it. It is also great for reducing fine lines and hyperpigmentation.
Who’s It For?: Since it has the mouistering effect to it, this acid would be recommended for those with dry or sensitive skin.
Products Containing Lactic Acid:
MANDELIC ACID:
What Is It?: This acid is once again very gentle, due to the fact it has the largest molecule of all of the AHAs, which allows it to penetrate skin slower. It is derived from bitter almonds.
What’s It Do? Not only does it help with fine lines, wrinkles & acne, it can also be a huge help to those with hyperpigmentation.
Who’s It For?: Sensitive Skin
Products Containing Mandelic Acid:
SALICYLIC ACID:
What Is It?: This is the acid you’ve almost all likely heard of, which has been derived from Willow Bark.
What’s It Do?: It’s anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-acne and exfoliating
Who’s It For?: This acid would suit you best if you suffer from oily and/or acne prone skin due to its anti-bacterial properties. However, those with normal/dry skin who have the odd breakout here and there, would also be suited to this acid.
