There’s just no question about it. We’ve all got more beauty products available to us today, than even the richest Queens of the past could ever have dreamt about in their wildest fantasies.
Visit any beauty shop, or even any chemist, and you’ll find rows upon rows of ointments, toners, facemasks, creams, and different potions with mystical sounding names and ingredients, that promise to get you looking your best. And judging by their popularity, there is no doubt that there is something to all those claims, too.
These days, a good skin moisturizer for face is only ever a quick walk down the high street away, if not a quick click on Amazon away.
All the same, the “back to basics”, “natural” cosmetics industry is growing more prominent every day. And there are some good reasons to believe that those ancient queens might have actually known a thing or two about beauty products, as well.
Here are a few reasons why your beauty routine should include herbal and traditional remedies.
Because many of them have withstood the test of time for a reason
Here’s an interesting thing about the traditions that have stood the test of time – generally speaking, they stood the test of time for a reason.
There’s a kind of Darwinian thing going on here. If a certain beauty product, or natural remedy, has been used for centuries and centuries, that also means that it’s been tested by generations upon generations (maybe including your grandmother’s generation), and for some reason, people found it worth keeping.
A lot of modern beauty products are obviously the real deal. But some also make some pretty out-there claims. And the thing is, they haven’t been around for long enough for many people have put them to the test yet.
Those traditional remedies that are still around today, on the other hand, have gone through a whole lot of performance testing.
Because natural treatments are often kinder on the skin (and maybe more sustainable) than synthetic alternatives
Many natural treatments are well known for being gentler on the skin than synthetic alternatives, which often include harsher chemicals, and mysterious ingredients that you might not know how you’ll react to.
On the other hand, everyone knows that dead sea mud masks do the trick, and are kind to the skin. After all, why would so many people be so keen to put them on their faces on regular basis otherwise?
Looking your best isn’t just a thing that you try and do on a day-to-day basis, or for a special night out. It’s the kind of thing that you want to maintain over time. So using products that are kind on your skin is always a good idea.
Because it gives you a lot more freedom to experiment, and take a “DIY” approach to your beauty routine
A lot of modern beauty products contain so many ingredients, blended in so many special ways, that it’d make your head spin trying to figure out just how they were created in the first place.
On the other hand, a lot of beauty products rely on simple herbs and plants, such as witch hazel, that you might find growing in your own garden.
Now, you might not necessarily want to experiment with harvesting, creating and testing out your own beauty products – but it’s a pretty cool idea to think that you possibly could if you wanted to.
