Most people will have overeaten over the festive season, and now as a new year begins they will be resolving to lose that extra weight they have put on. Many of them will fail, however, and by the end of the year, it will still be there before they put more weight on by overeating again.
Once the festivities are over with you do not have to be deprived to lose your excess weight. You just have to have a healthier diet, and the weight will disappear automatically.
Lots Of Fruit And Veg
Including plenty of fruit and veg in your diet is one of the best things you can do. The brightly coloured ones especially have nutrients and vitamins your body needs. Chop up some strawberries or blueberries and put them on your cereal instead of sugar. You will be eating something much healthier and will probably find you not only enjoy it more, but it will also be more filling too.
Most people can remember being forced to eat their ‘greens’ when they were young children, but making us eat them was for our own good. Green leafy vegetables such as cabbage, sprouts and broccoli have so much goodness in them that will help to stave off many medical conditions. At the Erbology site, they have many suggestions for snacks, boosters and oils among other things that can all help towards a healthy but very tasty diet. Eating healthy does not have to be boring!
Make Your Own Fizzy Drinks
If you crave a fizzy drink, even if it is only occasionally, nothing else will do. The ones you buy in shops are full of sugars and preservatives and are best avoided because they are far from healthy. The only ones that you should buy ready-made are organic ones which have natural sugars in them, and no chemicals added to make them last longer.
You could make your own though. There are lots of recipes online, but all it really takes is mixing some soda with some lime, for instance, and that will soon settle your craving.
Cut Down On Salt
Most foods already contain some salt and adding more to your meals will not do your blood pressure any good at all. Too much salt will also make you retain water and sap your energy. Some of the worst offenders for having a lot of salt in them are table sauces such as ketchup and mustard. You will find low-salt versions available and if you like these types of things you should keep your eyes open for them.
Cured meats also have a lot of salt in them and if you cannot do without your bacon or ham, have a smaller portion to reduce your salt intake.
Try Foods You Would Not Eat Before
As we age our taste buds change and you should try some foods that as a child you did not like so have not eaten them since. Experiment with the way you cook a piece of salmon, for instance, and you might find that something you used to hate is now something you love. You should give all foods a second chance, or you might regret it when you are older and find that you did like them after all.
You are what you eat, and if you eat healthily, chances are you will feel much healthier too.
