It’s officially Valentines Day month! I’m someone who has never really celebrated Valentines Day. I just don’t really understand why you should only spend one day of the year, proving that you love and appreciate your other half. Never have, and I doubt I ever will. However, I always get excited for the new Valentines beauty, subscription boxes and clothing releases to drop. Unfortunately, I do think that the Febuary 2019 Look Fantastic Subscription Box could have been a little bit more Valentines Day related. I was expecting red lipstick, pink blusher, maybe some rose infused skin care products… Just something a little more ‘love’ themed.
What’s Inside The February 2019 Look Fantastic Subscription Box?
Philip Kingsley Maximizer
“A volumising styling spray for fine and limp hair. Providing volume and body, this spray holds hair in place whilst smoothing frizz and adding shine. A spray that can be used on either wet or dry hair, this is a haircare essential.”
How to use: Spritz into the roots for a lift and spray through the mid lengths and ends for a volume boost.
Editor’s tip: Use this on dry hair to set your style in place!
We saw a Philip Kingsley product in the September 2018 Look Fantastic Subscription Box, and I’m over the moon that there’s another product from the hair god himself in this months box.
Whilst I rarely ever do anything to style my hair, I do love the big, messy hair look, and this product is exactly what I need to create that look.
The bottle in the box is only 60ml (whereas the full sized product is 125ml), so if you’re planning on using this daily, it’s not going to last you too long. However, it’s going to be perfect for someone like me who only wants to use it now and again. The size also means it’s going to be really handy to throw into your handbag and take with you.
It’s also suitable to use on colour treated hair, so if you have dyed hair, you don’t have to miss out on this one!
Sleek MakeUP Face Form Palette – Light 373
“A face shaping essential, this contour palette enhances the complexion. Containing a matte contour shade, a flushed blush and a dewy highlighter, this is a makeup essential perfect for defining your features. These lightweight yet pigmented powders blend easily into the skin, creating a perfectly diffused and healthy complexion.”
How to use: Use the contour shade to define your face and add a flush of colour to your cheeks. Use a fan brush to apply the highlighter along cheekbones.
Editor’s tip: Apply the blush shade to the tip of your nose for a sunkissed and healthy glow.kay, hear me out on this one.
Okay, hear me out on this one.
Whilst I am a big fan of Sleek products, there’s only so many contour palettes I can use from them.
We last saw a Sleek Contour palette in the May 2018 Look Fantastic box, so to see another less than a year later, I’m kind of disappointed.
The Face Form palette contains a contour shade, a highlight shade and also a rose gold blush shade. Just from sight, I think the highlight shade is the same as the one in the previous contour palette we received from them, but both the contour and blush shade are new additions to me.
I don’t think I’ll be reaching for this straight away, but I definitely will be giving it a go in the future.
Lord & Berry Matte Lipstick Pencil – Intimacy
“Achieve high pigmented colour with this Lord & Berry Matte Lipstick Pencil. With a silky smooth formula that glides effortlessly onto the lips, this lipstick pencil delivers long-lasting coverage that will last all day!”
How to use: Use the lipstick pencil to line the outside of lips and then fill in with lipstick.
Editor’s tip: Take advantage of the multi-use formula and use this lipstick as a blush.
Recently, it’s a rarity that I wear a lip product.
Ever since I went for the more natural approach with my makeup, I just have tended to skip out on applying a lipstick or a coloured lip product all together. A bit of lip balm in the day and some Hyaluronic Acid in the evening, and I’m good to go.
However, this product may change it for me slightly.
The shade is absolutely beautiful and right up my street. It’s nothing too bold, but it’s still got a nice, subtle colour to it. Perfect shade for adding some colour to your lips without being too heavy.
Doucce Punk Mascara
“Create fuller-looking lashes with this lightweight yet smooth formula that creates long-lasting results without clumping, smudging or fading. With a brush that has both long and short bristles, this mascara amplifies, separates, curls and coats lashes from root to tip.”
How to use: Apply to lashes in small sections, using the brush to separate and lengthen lashes.
Editor’s tip: Apply this mascara using a zig-zag motion to ensure that each lash is individually coated.
Annoyingly, we have another repeat.
I can’t actually remember or find the blog post of when we last received this, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t even use it once. Not because I’ve heard bad things about it (quite the opposite), but I just find travel/mini sized mascaras really difficult to apply. Since the actual wand is super diddy to fit into the tube, I just end up making a huge mess whenever I try applying them.
Like I said, I have seen some positive reviews on this, so I may just keep this at my boyfriend’s house so that I don’t have to pack mine every time, and give it ago then.
Emité Rose Gold Eye Lash Curlers
“Curl your lashes to perfection this ergonomically designed eye lash curler. With a comfortable grip, this curved design fits a variety of eye shapes whilst minimising risk oi smudging any other makeup. The eye lash curler’s rounded silicone rubber pad guarantees a lasting intense curl.”
How to use: Gently clamp the upper lashes and firmly squeeze the clamps together to create a curl.
Editor’s tip: Don’t clamp your lashes for over 3 seconds as this will crimp them, not curl.
I don’t know why I don’t curl my eyelashes more since I LOVE how the look. To be honest, I think it’s due to me being super lazy, and I can’t be bothered to spend an extra 10 seconds on my makeup routine.
I currently use a cheap pair that I picked up from Primark, and they seem to do the job. It’ll be interesting to see if these make any difference though!
Erno Laszlo Deep Sea Mud Bar
“Harness the therapeutic benefits of Dead Sea Mud with this detoxifying cleansing bar. Containing 26 minerals, this bar protects, restores and cleanses skin, leaving the complexion soft and radiant. Containing glycerin, this bar seals in and ensures optimum moisture levels whilst maintaining the skin’s pH levels.”
How to use: Use following a cleansing oil as part of a double cleansing ritual. Dampen the bar and then massage over the face, creating a lather.
Editor’s tip: Use the contours of the bar to stimulate circulation and encourage lymphatic drainage.
I mentioned in my Dr Botanicals post that I’ve currently stripped back my skin care routine to the absolute basics. Micellar water, natural oils, sudocrem, that sort of jazz.
Since I have stripped everything back, I’m not going to be using this for a while. My skin is a bit touch and go at the moment, so I definitely don’t want to be switching up my skin care products every week or so.
