Wilderness Festival 2018

Wilderness Festival 2018

As I’m starting this post, I can already feel the ‘post festival blues’ hitting. Although I now may be broke, have lost my voice and I honestly think I’ll be finding glitter in my underwear until the year 2034, I can’t help but miss being at Wilderness festival

Even though I’m quite clearly going to write about my weekend, I don’t think I can actually fully put it into words how much of an incredible festival it is. I don’t think I’m ever going to find another festival I enjoy as much as Wilderness.

Whilst this years lineup wasn’t the best they’ve ever had, I honestly think I could watch Bastille and Nile Rodgers and Chic everyday for the rest of my life. They were absolutely incredible, and the atmosphere in the crowd was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before in my life. No shoving, starting fights, angry dick heads who try to start a mosh pit, nothing. Na-da. Surprisingly, everyone there who slightly nudged me whilst trying to get past apologised profusely. If you’ve been to a festival before, you know most people would usually happily trade your soul for a can of fosters, but not at Wilderness.

Everyone there was just in their element, enjoying the moment. And that’s what festivals should be about.

What Is Wilderness Festival?

Wilderness festival isn’t your typical music festival.

The festival is dubbed as The Worlds Most Poshest Festival, and even though I don’t entirely agree, I definitely can’t disagree with it either. It truly is one of the most magical places on earth. Everyone there is so free-spirited and non judgemental, and it’s not a rare sight to see people walking around completely naked. Throughout the whole weekend, I saw a whole lot of boobs.

The best thing is though, that nobody blinks an eye at it. If you want to walk around naked, go for it. If you want to wear a ball gown, be my guest. You see everything and anything there.

They have a huge array of bands playing throughout the 4 days, so you’re guaranteed to find something your ears fancy. Country, rock, pop, jazz, the whole shebang.

Not only do they just play music though. There’s yoga classes, naked runs, fishing lakes, live debates, comedy acts, spas and even different workshops. Despite the festival being on for 4 days, you would still never be able to do everything they offer.

Where Is Wilderness Festival?

Wilderness festival is set in, you guessed it, the wilderness. More specifically, it’s right in the middle of Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire.

I’m very lucky in the sense that Wilderness festival is literally on my doorstep. From my house, it’s only a 15 minute walk, meaning that I get to spend the whole day eating incredible food and dancing until I think I’m actually going to melt into a puddle, and then stumble along home and get into a warm and comfortable bed. Bliss.

What To Eat

Where do I even begin with the food.

Honestly, if you’re not that interested in the musical side of festivals, you need to come to Wilderness just for the food. With over 100 food stalls, you’re bound to find something you like. Fancy something a bit different to the usual festival grub? Get yourself booked into one of the Long Table Banquets. Expect to be waited on whilst you enjoy your five course dinner (and, the price includes wine!). It is a little bit pricey (starting at £55 per adult), but if you’re still wanting to dine there, make sure that you book well in advance as they get booked up rather quickly.

Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get myself booked into a Long Table Banquets, but I did want to give a special shout out to Other Side Fried and BBQ Dreamz.

From Other Side Fried, they offer 3 different fried chicken burgers, and they’re honestly the best burger I’ve ever had. Working in hospitality, I’d like to think I’ve had my fair share of burgers, but nothing will ever top theirs.

We decided to pick up a pulled pork and chicken rice bowl (I can’t remember the actually name of the dish) from BBQ Dreamz on the last night. It was the most expensive dish on their menu (£11), but boy was it worth it. Is it weird that I haven’t stopped thinking about it since Wilderness has ended?

What To Do

Like I mentioned earlier, there’s a massive list of things you can do. I think if I were to talk about them all now, we’d be here until Wilderness 2019. These’s are the things that really caught my eye though:

  1. Comedy Acts.
  2. The Wilderness Cricket Match.
  3. Archery.
  4. Horse Riding.
  5. Wild Runs.
  6. Yoga.
  7. The Wilderness Signature Relaxing Massage.
  8. Letters Live.

Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get to do half the stuff I wanted to do. The weekend was still incredible, but it would have been nice to experience some of the things they offer.

Note to self: Book in advance next year.

Wilderness Festival 2018Shopping

Where do I even being with this section.

Around the whole site, there’s so many different stalls. The majority of them selling clothes and glitter. And glitter clothes.

There were some different stalls selling woodwork, wigs, and a few other bits and bobs, but they were quite buried away with the clothing stalls.

I didn’t purchase anything myself (even though I desperately wanted though) just from the pure fact of how pricey things are.

For example, I found this beautiful sequin playsuit, but for £125, I had to put it back on the hanger and try to forget about it. I tell you know, I’m still not over it.

If you’re wanting to buy some festival threads there, make sure you’ve got the cash with you. And I mean a lot of it. I don’t think I found anything under £40, and that was only for a pair of  printed leggings.

But, if you’re like myself and haven’t got that kind of cash spare, definitely get looking in the sales the summer BEFORE you go. There’s so many online shops that have a full ‘festival’ section, so keep these in mind around September/October time.

Wilderness Festival As A Whole

If you’re already thinking about what festivals you want to attend in 2019, make Wilderness Festival one of them.

Despite things being a little bit more on the pricey side, you can still have an incredible weekend without over spending (too much).

Every single person I’ve spoken to about Wilderness have all said how it’s one of those places that you have to go to before you die. A place you need on your bucket list.

If you’re planning on going, just make sure that you:

  • Bring comfortable shoes. Wilderness festival is spread over a huge area, and you’re going to be doing a lot of walking.
  • Bring a travel water bottle. There’s multiple water bottle filling points situated around the site.
  • Make sure you get out cash. Luckily, the majority of bars and shops had card machines with contactless, but I always feel better about having cash instead. There’s also cash machines in the festival, but there is a charge on them.
  • Expect rain. This year was the hottest year they’ve had to date, but is it really a festival if you’re not soaking wet and covered in mud?
  • Dress up. It’s the one weekend where you could run around, dressed as Henry Hoover, and everyone be okay with it.
  • Glitter, glitter and more glitter. I didn’t wear any the first day, and I felt so normal. If you forget to buy some before you go, there are luckily glitter stands around that will dazzle you up for a price.
  • Get a bloody bum bag. I don’t know what I would have done without mine.
  • Have fun, go wild, and feel free. Just enjoy every single moment, and dance like you’ll never dance again.
